by In the WWE Universe, anything can happen. So maybe it shouldn’t be a surprise that the fiance of Academy Awards winner Jennifer Hudson could possibly be the future of the WWE.
A few days ago in Santa Monica, Jockism had the opportunity to talk to WWE NXT star David Otunga. Some may know him as“Punk” from his days on the reality show, “I Love New York 2″ or as mentioned earlier, the fiance of Jennifer Hudson.
But after a few minutes with him, he should actually be recognized as a Harvard educated loving father who is deeply in love with his future wife and has an amazing future ahead of him. Both in and out of the ring.
When talk geared towards his Hollywood lifestyle that include the parties, the magazine covers and the red carpets. He approached things without ego, but more of a self assurance of himself. He never made you feel below him. It is almost like he belongs there.
With that charisma, the WWE rookie is taking his opportunity to become a major superstar even though he is only a year into his training. He is aware he has plenty to learn, but looks forward to the opportunities he has and will receive.
Some recent Hollywood inspired events were when he helped Jennifer with her Oscar ballot. They watched all the nominated films together and a majority of their selections were the actual winners this past Sunday.
They both thought Jeff Bridges and Mo’Nique were locks to win but struggled on picking a winner between Sandra Bullock and Gabourey Sidibe, but eventually leaned towards Sandra Bullock as their choice.
They both liked The Hurt Locker, but chose Avatar as Best Picture. So not 100% in their selections, but obviously they were both in the right frame of mind.
But like millions of others, they didn’t attend the Academy Awards this year, as David has never been but hopes to go next year with a hopeful and potential nomination for Jennifer to make things that much more eventful.
With crazy schedules for both, wedding plans are going well. They will be married “very” soon but no specific date was given. David has helped with flowers, boutineers but he really wants to be surprised. He knows its going to perfect no matter what. So Jennifer Hudson will be making a handful of important decisions to keep things perfect and secretive.
Another important part of their life is their son David Otunga Jr. who definitely has the music in him but also has the build of a future WWE superstar. Their son loves Jennifer’s three dogs, Grammy, Oscar and Dreamgirl. He has even started to mimic a cute bark to communicate with the dogs.
It just continues to show the natural entertainer their son is becoming. If things turn out that way, Jennifer and David would be happy to see him as an entertainer. Otunga will be thrilled with whatever his son becomes in life and would love for him to also follow his footsteps and attend Harvard. Lofty goals, but easily reachable with the parents they are.
Otunga even thought that 20 years from now, if he is wrestling his son at Wrestlemania. That would be a really great experience all wrapped up with Jennifer singing the national anthem the same night. Which leads to a rumor to be addressed.
Jennifer Hudson has been rumored to sing the national anthem at Wrestlemania 26 on March 28th, David has talked to her about it, and she is totally up for it. But nothing is currently a reality on that front. She would actually like to sing on the show that David Otunga main events. So nothing may be definite for this year, as it would be more special a few years down the line.
When it comes to singing, Jennifer Hudson has proved her talent over and over again. As we all remember her from her start in American Idol. But does she still watch the show? This year the answer is currently no, but they are all DVR’d. Both David and Jennifer are eager to watch the show together and see how Ellen Degeneres is on the show.
One thing is for sure, their life is always interesting and is always on the go and always exciting. All these moments and happenings in their lives have also given them the opportunity to meet President Obama on multiple occasions.
But when David was asked who was scarier for him to meet, Vince McMahon or the President? It was any easy answer, Vince McMahon.
Otunga mentioned he had a few things in common with the President. They both went to Harvard and love sports. But Vince McMahon is the man who is the main man in the WWE. So to meet him and impress him is important, but also a scary experience when you want to make a great impression.
But back to the President, it was easy to joke with him since they have met a few times. They even joked at the White House that they should get a room at the White House since they are there all the time, but they actually have never slept over.
If they slept over, they would want to stay/sleep in the Lincoln bedroom. They’ve never asked to stay over, but David believes if he and Jennifer wanted to stay, they’d get the green light.
Maybe something to look forward too in the future, which for David Otunga and Jennifer Hudson, if the past and present is showing anything, the future is going to be very bright.
