Today the Kansas City Chiefs signed veteran running back Thomas Jones to a 2-year deal worth $5 million.
After leading the New York Jets‘ first-ranked rushing attack last season, Jones was released because the two parties could not agree on the restructuring of a contract.
The new pickup should make Chiefs fans happy, as their team is receiving a player who is known to have great leadership and inspirational qualities. And for a young team like the Chiefs, that is exactly what they need. (Coming off of career-highs in rushing yards (1402) and touchdowns (14) doesn’t hurt either.)
One group of people who are not so thrilled about the move, are fantasy football owners who were hoping to steal Jamaal Charles in their fantasy drafts. Before the Jones pickup, Charles was the unanimous number one running back in Kansas City, and the way he finished last season, fantasy football owners were very excited about the prospect of picking him, especially in a league where teams have generally become running back by committee. Unfortunately, that is no longer the case. (Even though there are reports that say that Charles is still the feature back)
So much for Jamaal Charles being a fantasy stud.
Come on, Chiefs!
