Mike Tyson To Return To Boxing?

According to an article on Ringsidereport.com, Mike Tyson is set to return to boxing. This, in my opinion, is something that boxing might need if it wants to have any chance of recapturing its magic from the glory years in the 90’s.

Since that time, boxing has been an utter joke in comparison, and there has been a total shift in the style of boxers, especially in the heavyweight division.

The stars in boxing today, consist of guys like Manny Pacquaio and Floyd Mayweather Jr., who, in their own right, are very talented boxers, but they are not like the boxers of yesteryear. Sure, there are still supporters who love watching these guys fight, but they do not get the mass attention like Tyson and Holyfield once did. Back then, general sports fans actually cared about boxing. Now, only boxing fans, for the most part, care about boxing.

Of course, when Tyson comes back, he will not be the same boxer he was, back when he was whipping up opponents like scrambled eggs, but his persona, in it of itself, should be a draw that gets many people watching and talking about it. In essence, he will get more attention because of Mike Tyson “the celebrity” than Mike Tyson “the boxer.”

So no, Tyson is not going to be the guy to bring the sport of boxing back to the top on his own, but he will give it a much-needed boost just by being a part of it.

Whenever the “baddest man on the planet” decides to return to the sport that made him famous, there will be people around to watch him. After all, he’s halfway to being the first boxer to devour a pair of ears.
