Shaquille O’Neal, who I am now referring to as the big “Big Baby,” was injured courtesy of the little “Big Baby,” Glen Davis, last week. When the older LSU alum went up for a shot, his thumb was met by the younger LSU alum, causing an injury that could last for up to 2 months.
On Monday morning, Shaq had surgery on the thumb, and he has been informed that it could take between 6-8 weeks to heal. With that being the case, the Cavs have some things they need to sort out as the season winds down.
Without Shaq, the Cleveland Cavaliers gain speed, but they do lose the presence in the middle that can take them to the next level. They will be forced to start Anderson Varejao at center, who can play the game but cannot really be counted on as a starting center in my opinion. He can hustle and play good defense, but I can’t see him being all that successful in an extended role.
But, at the end of the day, the Cavs are still rolling with LeBron James, and they don’t have anything to worry about. Heck, for all we know, LeBron instructed Davis to injure Shaq, so that he didn’t have to hurt the Big Fella’s feelings by telling him that he is slowing the team down.
And, if you were wondering, yes, LeBron does have that kind of power. They don’t call him “The King” for nothing.
