So the other day Tony Kornheiser made a couple comments about a female reporter from ESPN and people got pissed. While I agree his comments were a little on the harsh side and pretty unreasonable, I’m still going to listen to the guy talk about sports and such. It seemed like an easy solution was to have him stick to criticizing sports and not his coworkers on the air.
Fair enough and everything is good.
Now, here comes Mike Milbury. Yesterday, while commenting on the Russia vs. Canada game, a game where Canada scored 7 and sent Russia packing, Milbury was asked about how he thought the game went. His response:
‘I was shocked that it was this one sided and I was really disappointed that these guys (Russia) came with their, their Euro-trash game. There was just no heart, no guts, no… no nothing there.’
Milbury received immediate backlash about the comment.
Now, I can’t stand Mike Milbury. I think his analysis is always off and he constantly has his mouth around Sidney Crosby’s Jock-ism (as does the rest of Canada). But in this case, I’m siding with him.
His comment wasn’t raciest. The Russians, playing the European style, came in and played with their head up their ass. You could say they were playing like ‘trash’.
Playing European style hockey + playing like trash = Euro Trash.
As for the rest of the world watching sports and listening to analysis; grow up or stop watching. These guys are analysts. They analyze the game based on their experience on playing and/or their personal opinions. If you don’t agree with the opinion, that’s OK. But don’t try to get the guy fired over it.
Mike, I can’t stand you and wish you would leave hockey, but I think you’ve been wronged here.
Written by Chuck Nelson. Inspired by Jeremy Roenick for starting this whole mess with his reaction.

I agree about Milbury. He says a lot of things he shouldn’t, but people really need to lighten up about this. Some headlines I have seen are far worse than anything Mike Milbury said, my favorite was “Mike Milbury Says Russian Team Is Euro-trash.” WRONG! He said they brought their Euro-trash GAME, not that the team was. Jerry Seinfeld used the term on his show once, does that make him a terrible racist, too? This world’s preoccupation with political correctness is ridiculous. Get over it, people!!!
