If you saw Vince Carter’s 48-point outburst against the Hornets last night, you have one person to thank: head coach, Stan Van Gundy. Prior to the game, Vince Carter went to the Fountain of Youth, in order to regain his old playing ability. Obviously, based on his performance, he was able to do that. However, because Carter made that trip to the Fountain of Youth, he came late to the arena. Most coaches would suspend their players for a stunt like that, but SVG is not like most coaches.
Because Carter explained that he went to the Fountain of Youth, in order to improve his game, Van Gundy motivated Carter and told him to show what he was made of. Instead of getting mad at Carter, Van Gundy challenged him to perform at a higher level.
And that is exactly what he did when he scored 48 points for his head coach.
Way to go, Stan! Great motivational tactic!
Oh, and Vince, if you could tell me where that Fountain of Youth is located, that would be great.
